wake up from the dream, girl

In the song, “Little Dreams” by Ellie Goulding, it shares the message of remembrance. I think what Ellie Goulding is trying to show is how powerful our mind can be. It can take over our actions and make us oblivious from the reality. I think this song kind of illustrates the story of a girl who is remembering the guy that left her that she is still in love with and it hurts to face the reality he is gone, so it’s easier to daze off into the memories. There’s a line that says, “You've got me caught in a place/Panic for a minute/Got my brain in a daze/I wish you weren't in it/There are so many ways/To lose your attention” I think this verse sort of shows the longing for the moment, but knows its wrong. the girl wants to move on, but she can’t. a lot of the song also portrays the message of past experiences taking over our emotional state. For example one verse it says, “If the streetlight smashed above me/I wouldn't move an inch/Turn the glass into stars/And your face is the moon/And the night turns to you/'Cause my mind is on you” this is towards the beginning of the song and shows the weakness this girl faces. She has startling dreams, but they always turn to him. This is like symbolizing instead of facing the pain, she pretends. Then at the end of the chorus she says, “You can break everything but so what?/I can take anything.” This shows the strength that she is rebuilding. Then my favorite part of the song comes. She tries to sort of convince herself that she is over him. But the last chorus she says again how her mind is always on him. This song reminds me of her mental thought process.

This song is so true. It doesn’t even have to be in the sense of losing a lover or something, but just how denial makes things worse. Its shows the pain in wanting something to be over, or wanting to be strong but always falling apart at the end. There’s a part of the song where she says, “There are so many ways/ To lose your attention” I think this line is really depressing. It sort of says, I can’t get you out of my head, and you don’t really care or remember me. It reminds me of a scenario of being left behind. Leaving something that was special to you is a really hard thing to face, but having the other person not care while you are dying of loneliness is the worst feeling in the world.

a lot of people can’t admit that they aren’t over something. I think this is definitely something that is really hard to let go of. Part of the problem is facing reality, because it’s so much easier to just pretend it’s not happening or be in denial. Listening to this song really shows that it’s okay to be taken over by grief or emotional breakdowns, but there is a way out. When she says, “You’re the heat in my bones/ but you beat me with stones.” This line is my favorite. This line shows betrayal and cruelness and cold hearted people but it also shows that there is no way to stop that. There is no way to make them come back, to love you again, to be your friend again.

After Abandoning Book...

So i finished, Breathless FINALLY yesterday. I had previously abandoned this book and then decided i should just finish it. It isn't very long, but it seemed to drag on forever. Finishing it didn't make me like it anymore, especially because i didn't like the ending. When i finish books, usually i can find a message and in this book i found some messages, but i feel like the ending didn't resolve or out closure to any of them and that's what I decided to write my blogpost on.

One message I found was that you shouldn't assume that your parent doesn't love you because parents have different ways of loving people and showing that. katie, the protagonist, and her brother, Will live with their parents and they call their dad, the ghost, because he never is around. He always is working and only seems to show up when someone is in trouble and needs scolding. Katie and Will took this in the way of, he doesn't love us. But when Will is gone and Katie comes home, she realizes the ghost does care. So I think i do agree with this message, but not exactly how the author portrays it. I think part of the lesson learned here is in the ghosts hands, and the author should show that the ghost wasn't exactly the best parent. I think a lot of times parents aren't sure how to deal with everything and can't take the role of a parent. I can definitely connect to this being a teenager myself. But as sassy as we can be, I think the parent also needs to understand what a tough place we are in and how it's hard for us as well. I think that Katie and Will had their flaws, but they're growing up and they are going to make mistakes, but they won't exactly learn from them if they are scolded, but then put behind them with nothing left for them to deal with. I think the ghost tries to fix everything himself so everything can be perfect, but really it's in the child's hand to take responsibility as well. But the thing that really bugged me was in the end, Will didn't come to a closure or realization of this message, and the end was totally off topic and didn't mention this at all. How is a reader supposed to learn from this message if the characters in the book can't even recognized the resolution?

I think this book also carried on the ordinary plot of girl meets boy, they fall in love, fight, they break up, they are friends. And i think this book is a perfect example of one of those books that just rides along the surface and doesn't dive in deeper why relationships go like that, and also if they even do? It really bugs me when books send a message that everyone would like to believe because that would be in a perfect world, but there is no such thing! Why can't books send a message that we can learn in our imperfect world? I think that this was such a stereo typical book of that perfect boarding school, but oh wait, everyone's nice to each other and there's no monarchy. I think for this book, there needed to be that place where the imperfections could shine through. I think that is what makes the most interesting messages and the most relatable.

I think the Characters in this book were interesting, but there could be a better plot line and a better message portrayal throughout the book to make it better. I think the lesson that i learned as a writer reading this book was you should never make it a happy ending that everyone knows only happens in fairytales because your reader will be lied to and/ or your message won't be received.
